Overview of indicators

The BDM programme records Switzerland's biodiversity in the form of "indicators" that express part of the country's biodiversity.

The most important BDM indicators are:

> Species diversity at national and regional level (Z3)
> Species Diversity in Landscapes (Z7)
> Species diversity in habitats (Z9)

Switzerland’s BDM comprises a total of 34 indicators. Some of them, such as the core indicators listed above, are based on the results of special BDM surveys in the field. The majority, however, are computed using third-party data.

Consistent with international standards, BDM indicators are divided into three categories: state indicators (Z), pressure indicators (E), and response indicators (M). You will find additional information on this subject plus a complete list containing summaries of all indicators by clicking on the navigation bar above.

For direct access to individual indicators, please click on the appropriate ID in the table on the left. Since BDM is still in its initial stages, some indicators—marked by a light background—aren’t active yet due to lack of data.
