What does the BDM cost? The annual cost for the BDM is approx. CHF 3 million. Most of it are personnel costs.

After extensive preliminary work, the sampling programme was launched in 2001 for the first species groups. The BDM programme is still in the implementation phase. During this phase, the various surveys will be introduced one after the other, and the project concept will also be developed further.
The annual cost for regular operation of the BDM (scheduled for 2006) will be CHF 3 million. This will cover surveys of the most important species groups, operation of a coordination office, and communication of the results.
